Help!

Currently I am skiing (well not whilst writing this) in Morzine, France. I intended to upload all my photos of cakes and other baking while I'm here. However... My blog has converted to Frenchism. Meaning that I have no idea of what anything says. It took me several presses of random French buttons just to post this message. So, I am not neglecting my cake duties, but I am merely defeated by a very confusing language.

I'm sorry. So sorry

I have a valid reason for not updating my blog in so long - I've been charging around Bristol doing christmas shopping, riding, seeing friends and of course, baking!
Anyway I'm back now and am full of the festive spirit!

I've made way too much food!

  • Yule log with some family friends
  • Mince pies (of course!)
  • Cinnamon caramel buttons (check the recipe out here) I burnt mine but they were still pretty yummy!
  • Peppermint creams
  • Chocolate and rose cake

I hope everybody is having a lovely, festive and foody preparation for Christmas. Only a week to go!

Children In Need

As most of you will know, it was CiN last Friday. For those abroad, Children in Need is a huge UK charity and has an annual major fundraising day which involves schools and workplaces doing fun things to raise money. This is all then followed by an evening of television with sketches, live performances, charity films etc. It's a great cause so check out their website BBC - Children in Need - Changing Children's Lives and take a moment to donate if you can. Thanks :)

Anyway, my school had a mufti day and had to wear spots and stripes. There were crazy hat competitions, dress up the teacher, coin races, tuck sales and face painting. Best of all, our Deputy Head wore a dress and some impressive heels. He's a man, just so you know ;) There was also a Pudsey cake competition by the food technology department. Pudsey is the CIN mascot, a yellow teddy with a spotty head bandana. Of course I entered! I wanted to do a sponge cake but the entry requirements stated that they had to be six fairy  cakes. I won, but Mr Goldsmith (judge and food tech teacher) still hasn't given me my prize! Gosh(!)

Savannah and Poppy's cake

I was commissioned to provide the cake for my friend's birthday lunch with extended family. She wanted to share it with her cousin, Poppy so I designed it with both of them in mind. Savannah's criteria was: rainbow, gold leaves, pink and red flowers. I decided to create some poppies and pink flowers of a random kind. This was my first time making flowers out of fondant. I was quite happy with the result and the entire family loved it, even the little ones! Anyway, hope you like it :)

I have returned to ye!

I'm so sorry. I have abandoned thee for too long. However, I have made some cakes since then and I shall display them for your enjoyment (or not enjoyment depending if you're a sad case who hates life). Our first product, the RAINBOW CAKES! *astonished gasps of a small crowd* These took me AGES but it was so so worth it. I made them for my Student Robotics Society meeting at school (I'm a nerd). They went down pretty well. I found that with Rainbow Cake, they actually look better than they taste as they don't have any kind of topping so the effect wasn't ruined. Also you can taste a small hint of the colouring. In future, I may experiment by putting in some kind of flavouring like rose water or a fruity essence - something that won't affect the colour. Anyway, I was pretty pleased with the result.

P.S. The sponge doesn't look particularly fluffy because I froze these as I made too many :)

Savannah's cake!

It was my bezzie's 16th birthday last week. I was a little short on time so I went with a pretty simple but cute design in her favourite colours - purple and gold. The gold doesn't really show up on the pictures, unfortunately.

Collaboration for Ruth's birthday!

My friend, Gemma, helped me do a cake for our buddy, Ruth's, 16th birthday.  Simple but pretty, and in her favourite colours.

First 'job'!!!

I was commissioned to make a cake for my dad's friend's brother (sorrry! I'll try not to make this confusing!) as their favourite cake shop had closed down and there are very few cake places in Bristol. Anyway it was a last minute cake so I had to work pretty fast as I only had a day to do it in. The themes I was given were; Bob Marley, gardening and the guy was bald. Not the easiest task to be honest! I settled for a chocolate gardening cake with a Bob Marley colour scheme and a icing figure of the recipient. Hope you like it! I'm pretty proud of it as it's my first paying customer and as I said, only a day to do it in.

Musical birthday cake

I made this cake for my brother's 18th birthday. He loves music and plays guitar so I designed the cake around that. The sheet music around the edge is an extract from 'I Gotta Feeling" by The Black Eyed Peas as he plays the song really well. It took me about 7 hours to complete. The cake is chocolate sponge with chocolate buttercream and raspberry jam filling.

Hi Cake Nommers!

Hello all cake nommers out there! I'm Tash and I'm a 15 year old amateur cake maker and decorator. I am self taught from the age of 11. I'm not particularly skilled at what I do but I'm improving. I am partial to white chocolate and raspberry muffins. I'll be using this blog to display my 'creations'. So sit back, nom cake and enjoy!
